First artwork revealed for Aja’s "Cobra: The Space Pirate"

How do you not get excited about a movie called Cobra: The Space Pirate? I love every word in that sentence. The fact that Alexandre Aja is directing is the proverbial icing on the cake. That awesome Frenchman’s horror repertoire ranges from gritty and brutal (High Tension) to silly and fun (Piranha 3-D). His latest is based on the Japanese manga “Cobra” by Buichi Terasawa. According to ComingSoon, the plot is as follows:

The film follows the eponymous rogue space pirate, a man who has surgically altered his face and erases his own memory to hide from his enemies. Cobra gradually regains his memories and unites with his old partner Lady Armaroid and his ship Tortuga. Together, the two set off on an adventure to recover a lost treasure on Mars.

The French Premiere site has the first peek at some promotional artwork for the film, which was created to garner interest at Cannes:

Pretty sweet, huh? I’m very eager to find out more about this film, especially who is playing the titular hero. What do you think?
