For weeks, it has been hyped that Drive starring Ryan Gosling was to be the Hollywood debut of Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn (Bronson, Valhalla Rising). Well, now it seems Drive has been put on the back-burner in favor of Only God Forgives, a neo-western set in Bangkok, Thailand. Cineuropa reports that the film is currently being shopped around with a cast that includes Kristin Scott Thomas and Luke Evans. That site claims the plot is about “an English criminal who takes refuge in Thailand” while The Playlist reports it is about “a Thai police lieutenant whose rivalry with a gangster sees the two settling their differences in a Thai boxing match” so interpret that how you like. Regardless, I can’t wait to hear more about this one!
