When I heard Rod Lurie (The Contender) was remaking Sam Peckinpah's Straw Dogs, my first thought was probably the same as everyone else's - "Why?!?!"
I believe remakes are not always totally unjustified but the trailer for this remake only confirms my suspicion that there is absolutely NO point to this. It appears to be a scene-for-scene, line-for-line recreation. What, I ask you, is the freaking point of remaking a film if you don't at least add your own flair to it? And Lurie of all people, being a former film critic, should know better. As a cinema fan, he must understand this frustration.
The cast is decent but there is no way this will compare to the brutality of the original film, and nobody can touch Dustin Hoffman's original performance.
