'Evil Dead' Remake is Officially A Go

UPDATE: It has been announced that Diablo Cody (Juno, Jennifer's Body) is writing the script. Therefore, this remake is officially dead to me.

According to Bloody-Disgusting, a director has been announced for the long-rumored Evil Dead remake. That man is Fede Alvarez (Federico Alvarez), who directed the robot invasion short, Panic Attack! In 2009, Sam Raimi, who directed the original 1981 horror film The Evil Dead, announced that his Ghost House Pictures had hired Alvarez to direct a genre project (source). At the time, I assumed he would be adapting his short to a feature but we now see what his first project will be.

Adding fuel to the fire, Bruce Campbell posted the following on Twitter: "Believe in the remake, dawg! The project is real. In the works. Cool as hell. Scary as hell." Somehow, a lot of people have misinterpreted that to mean he is returning to the franchise. I can assure you, he is not. At the recent Wizard World Philly and Orlando May-Hem conventions, Campbell confirmed in person that there will not be a fourth Evil Dead film nor would he be involved. He suggested that a remake, however, was inevitable.

So to everyone with their hopes set on seeing Bruce return as Ash - forget about it, and just hope this supposedly indie-style remake will be badass. Judging by the director's work, I have some faith this could be quite cool. Just check out his short, Panic Attack! below. The man knows how to use a small budget to maximum effect.
