According to Bloody Disgusting, the Evil Dead remake has cast a lead, Lily Collins. The 22-year-old actress is also the titular lead in the forthcoming Snow White flick, Mirror Mirror. Sources claim Collins will play the "female equivalent of Ashley Williams" in Evil Dead but I am not convinced. B-D describes her role of Mia as follows:
"After a recent overdose, Mia struggles with her new-found sobriety. She begins acting insane, so it comes as no surprise that nobody believes her crazy claims of coyote dogs and trees attacking her!"
So there you have it - she is attacked by a tree. Who else was famously attacked by a tree, hmm? Not to mention, everyone thinks she's crazy, so that means she must be the first one to be victimized. Sound familiar yet? Plus, she's the one with issues (here it's drug addiction, in the original it was social phobia). Have you figured it out yet, kids? She's Cheryl!
Besides, the word "lead" is tricky as Ash was not really the lead in Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead - it took time (and a lot of pain) for him to fill that leader role. Meanwhile, there is a character named David who is with his fiancee. You know, sort of like Ash and Linda....
Having said all that, even if this girl was going to be 100% a female Ash - who cares? This is a totally different film with new characters. And a female Ash is not such a strange idea - just look at Drag Me to Hell.
So what do you think of all this? Will you give the remake a chance?
